If you've ever wondered just what goes on in the mind of that marvelously comical character actor Richard Haydn, you won't believe what you are about to read his only book. It's a wonderful tale of absurdity from the star of Forever Amber, Sitting Pretty, The Twilight Zone, and of course, Alice in Wonderland. It is a book that cannot be described. You have to read it. But as Mr. Haydn himself explains on page 3, "I am determined to spare no pains to ensure that the entries in this journal be both permanently and universally interesting." You shall enjoy.
The Journal of Edwin Carp Richard Haydn Books
On an episode of Dick van Dyke they were trying to do a sort of revival of classic entertainers. This guy was one of them. It was great fun watching him imitate a fish, and later recite a very silly poem. I just had to get the book. It was disappointing because it didn't match that character. It was well worth it, though, because the book is still interesting reading. Unique.Product details

The Journal of Edwin Carp Richard Haydn Books Reviews
For anyone familiar with actor Richard Haydn from roles such as in 1941’s Ball of Fire, the character of Edwin Carp could have well been played by him. This book is a journal written by this character invented by Haydn and is delightful. While there are numerous typographical errors (which may be the publisher's), the character of Edwin Carp and his mother, his fiancé (of 9 years), his fiancé’s son, the housekeeper, and so many others are so well developed. The book is very humorous and I only wish it could have been made into a film with Haydn playing him.
Averages out to 2.5, but I rounded down to 2 because the publisher should really be embarrassed for their carelessness.
This is a nice book telling the everyday experiences in the life of the fictional lead character, Edwin Carp. I liked it. Unfortunately, copious spelling errors and formatting mistakes (no spaces between words and footnotes on the wrong page) made it difficult to read and, at times, even incomprehensible. As an English teacher I'd grade it D-, but only because of the publishing errors, not the story itself.
